Why You May Need A Tooth Extraction?

Removing Unhealthy Teeth

At Kenmore Family Dental Care, our goal is always to save your teeth when possible. But in situations where teeth can’t be repaired, Alexandria tooth extractions are the best way to get you out of pain and reduce the risk of further complications. Call (571) 222-5072 to learn more!

Types Of Alexandria Tooth Extractions

Basic extractions

Basic extractions are usually used for teeth that have been damaged by tooth decay, gum disease, or oral injuries, but are mostly intact. In this procedure, Dr. Han will use special dental tools to grab the tooth and extract it from your mouth in one piece.

Wisdom teeth extractions

The wisdom teeth often grow into the mouth improperly, which can lead to pain, discomfort, and a higher risk of infections. If your wisdom teeth are causing you pain, they may need to be extracted.

Impacted wisdom teeth extractions

A wisdom tooth that doesn’t fully emerge from the gums is called an “impacted” tooth. To remove this tooth, Alexandria dentist Dr. Heejo Han will create an opening in your gums, then cut the tooth into sections and remove it piece by piece.

Treatment Timeline

What to Expect at Every Step

Preparing Your Mouth

Step 1

First, Dr. Han will clean the area to reduce the risk of infection, and then numb the treatment site to ensure your comfort. We also offer sedation dentistry to keep you feeling comfortable during your treatment.

Extracting The Tooth

Step 2

If you’re getting a basic extraction, Dr. Han will use dental tools to loosen the tooth in its socket. Then, he will pull it out with a pair of dental forceps. In a surgical extraction, Dr. Han will create an opening in your gum, then use a dental drill to cut your tooth into small pieces. He will extract each piece until the tooth has been completely removed.

Healing & Recovery

Step 3

Dr. Han will clean and disinfect the treatment area, then suture it shut. This process will be repeated for each tooth that requires extraction. Then, he will send you home with a set of recovery instructions to follow. It takes about two weeks to heal completely, but you can get back to your normal routine within a day or two.

“AMAZING 6/5 STARS... New to the area and was having wisdom tooth pain. Dr. Han was extremely caring and didn't rush me to get an extraction. He made sure I felt good so I could keep him updated. Obviously will go back for my extraction soon and I'm glad I found them. Update: Had two of my wisdom teeth extracted. Getting an appointment was fast and they have convenient hours. I was extremely nervous but Dr. Han is AMAZING. The procedure was so fast and you could tell he is very good at what he does. My recovery was less than 24 hours, with minimal pain. Went back for the suture removal and it is almost completely healed only a week later. ”

I am never one to leave reviews, but this one is beyond deserving. Dr. Han and his assistant went above and beyond my expectations. I suffer from severe anxiety when it comes to doctors because of past experiences. However, Dr. Han's jokes and literally telling me everything he was doing before he did it made this a wonderful visit. I left feeling great and not anxious. #officiallyhavemypermanentdoc

“I am SUPER nervous about going to the dentist, but this place is FABULOUS. The staff was friendly, gentle, and understanding, and Dr. Han was incredible. I had my first crown put in. He was knowledgeable about everything from which numbing agents were best to use (I've had reactions to all of them except the one he used), which crown material to use with zero mercury in them, and understood even the homeopathic pain remedies I prefer to use. Everyone there has a great bedside manner and Dr. Han really helped put me at ease with his humor and positive attitude. Fantastic office all around!”

“5/5 stars! Dr. Han is the best dentist we have ever seen - of the 35+ dentists who have treated us in the past 30 years )we were both in the military)! We are following Dr. Han from his previous dental office over to his new practice - one that will be entirely his own. So excited for the care we expect to receive there... Dr. Han is just that good! Friendly, calming, listens and is highly competent. We even recommended him to my parents, who plan to sign up once Dr. Han's practice opens!”

Dr. Han and his staff were amazing. He performed a thorough examination. He was up front and I appreciate him for that. Dr. Han has a great bedside manner and really cares for his patients. THANK YOU, Dr. Han!

Dr. Han is extremely kind and highly skilled as is his assistant. I was nervous due to prior bad experiences with other practices, but upon meeting him, I immediately was put at ease. He fixed my issue, and in doing so, gave me relief from years of discomfort and inflammation.

Dr. Han was phenomenal. My previous dental experiences had been awful and left me with severe PTSD. With Dr. Han I've never felt more reassured or in capable hands. I was talked through every little thing and assured over and over through any process I went through. Permanent dentist office for life.

I'm very pleased with the results of my front tooth dental crown. Thank you, Dr. Han, you did an amazing job it looks so natural and I feel pretty! Your kindness and honesty makes a positive difference.

Mary F.

Always love working with Dr. Han - he is a top-notch dentist, master of his craft, and is always very knowledgeable, never patronizing. I appreciate the fact that he doesn't try to upsell me on unnecessary treatments or procedures, and I can always opt out of things like fluoride if needed. But rest assured, he embraces a mindset of proactive preventive care.

About Tooth Extractions

What Is The Extraction Recovery Process Like?

You can get back to your normal routine within 24-48 hours. However, it will take up to two weeks for your mouth to heal completely. As your mouth heals, you’ll need to follow Dr. Han’s recovery instructions closely.

You’ll need to do things like eat soft foods, avoid smoking and using straws, avoid exercise for several days, and take steps to clean your extraction site as you recover. For more information, you can consult the recovery instructions that Dr. Han will give you after your treatment.

How Do I Know If My Wisdom Teeth Need To Be Extracted?

Pain is the #1 thing to look out for. If your wisdom teeth are coming in normally and are not causing any pain, discomfort, or changes in your mouth, there’s no need to remove them.

However, if your wisdom teeth are causing you pain, or you notice symptoms like inflamed gums, jaw pain, or jaw stiffness, they may need to be extracted. If you think you need wisdom tooth extractions, contact the team at Kenmore Family Dental Care right away.
